You’re put on a PIP.

It is, however, an indication that something has to improve in terms of your performance. Your boss is basically telling you he or she is worried about how you’re progressing, but wants to see you get back on track. So if you’ve been put on one, don’t assume you’ll get fired; but do strive to make performance improvements.

You’re not included in key meetings.

You’re used to being involved in high level projects and important meetings. Suddenly, though, you’re being left out in the cold. It could be a sign your boss wants you to focus more on project work. Or, it could, in fact, be the first indication you’re being phased out. If you have a decent relationship with your boss, talk to him or her. Bring up your concerns and ask your boss straight out if there’s any issues to be aware of.

Your boss starts cc-ing the whole company on emails to you.

If that’s the case, your boss could be trying to create a paper trail, where everything is documented. It could be that others need to know about a project you’re working on, or a particular situation with a customer. So don’t get overly sensitive about it. But if it seems totally unnecessary – and especially if those being copied are in HR – then you may want to start polishing your resume.

Your boss is treating you differently.

If you have a good relationship with your boss that suddenly goes down the tubes, it certainly can make you wonder. It could be that they’re incredibly busy or distracted, or it could be a sign you’re about to be let go. If your manager knows of your impending termination, facing you isn’t easy.
